Plain terms for a small app run by one person.
Last updated 10 September 2026.
Alefya is a study aid for spoken Palestinian Arabic and Modern Hebrew, provided free. Using it means agreeing to what is on this page.
The app is careful about provenance and says so throughout: word data is looked up from published lexicons rather than generated, and each word card tells you where its root, meaning and vowels came from. But the connecting prose, the graded stories and the daily news are written with the help of a language model, and except where explicitly marked as verified, they have not been checked by a native speaker. The app marks which is which. Do not rely on it for anything consequential — legal, medical, official or safety-critical — and do not treat it as a certified translation service.
Keep your password to yourself. Tell us at support@alefya.me if you think someone else has it. You can delete your account at any time; see the privacy page.
If you add an Anthropic or Crossway key, you are using your own account with that company, under their terms, at your own cost. Alefya passes your request to them and shows you the answer; it does not stand between you and them, and it never sees your bill.
Do not attempt to break the app, scrape it wholesale, resell it, or use it to harass anyone through the Friends feature. Access can be withdrawn for any of those.
The application, the original Arabic and Hebrew prose, and the generated audio are © 2026 Alex Branum, all rights reserved. Some data is third-party and carries its own licence — the Maknuune Palestinian Arabic lexicon and the Hebrew lexicon derived from Wiktionary are both CC BY-SA 4.0, and reach you under that licence regardless of anything above. Public-domain scripture is public domain. Full attribution ships with the app; see About.
The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. It may be wrong, unavailable, or discontinued. To the fullest extent the law allows, liability for any damages arising from its use is disclaimed.
These terms may change; the date at the top will say when. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting it.
